Journey by Covered Wagon 02.24.2011

Yes, I am aware that I am retro-actively posting about our Seattle adventure. Setbacks and roadblocks will do that to a blog, but here it is, Patrick and my life and adventure together to find employment in the good ol' West.

02.24.2011 Thursday
This was Patrick's last day of work and I was home working on packing all those last boxes we had and slowly cleaning as I went. I called Patrick to find out what the plan was for lunch that day with his lunch people and he said he had some news about our UHaul truck that he wanted to tell me about so we could discuss our options later that day. Here is what we discovered about our 20 ft UHaul truck we had ordered a month beforehand:
  • They had one but a new employee gave it away.
  • They got another one in but a nice african american couple managed to fanagle it out of them.
  • They had a truck coming that got hit by a moose, it worked fine just pulled to the left a bit.
  • They had a 30 ft truck if we wanted it, otherwise our option was to wait until Wednesday the next week to pick up the one we had originally ordered.
We mulled it over, didn't actually make a decision other than to discuss it at lunch.
Come to find out it was all a bunch of prank phone calls from Patrick's co-workers.
Phew.

02.25.2011 Friday
UHaul actually called us and said that our 17 ft truck would be ready on Saturday at 4 pm. We told them we had ordered a 20 ft truck and our stuff may or may not fit in a 17 ft truck. They said they wouldn't probably have one that size for us on Saturday but they could give us a 26 ft truck for the same price for us. So we had this goliath of a truck to drive from in Bozeman, to Belgrade, to try to park and load in our driveway and then drive over the snowy, crazy pass (Butte), through Missoula and then to Hamilton to unload.

Thanks to our amazing friends we managed to pack up the UHaul, get rid of any alcohol and dry goods we couldn't take with us and eat massive amounts of Chinese food. Thanks for all who helped us, you have no idea how appreciative we are. I thought the loading of the UHaul and then unloading it in Hamilton would be the hardest part of our trip. Patrick was mainly concerned with our trek to Hamilton with the huge truck, wind, ice and snow. Little did we know the universe had other plans...
